Job Duties:

  • Plant trees using manual planting tools in reforestation areas

  • Operate power thinning saw to thin and space trees in reforestation areas

  • Perform other silviculture duties such as collecting seed cones, pruning trees

  • Manual forest fire fighting under direction of J.D. Irving, Limited staff

  • Care and maintenance of equipment required for job

Requirements:

  • Previous experience as a labourer or other position with high physical demands is required

  • No education requirement

  • Hardworking with a strong work ethic

  • Willing to work in a production-based environment w you are paid by piecework

  • Willing to live in remote camp-based accommodation, with peers for the entire work season

  • Interest in working outdoors

  • Ability to work alone and in a team environment with a variety of people

  • Ability to learn and retain information quickly

  • Must have hard hat, ear/eye protection, planting tool and harness, and thinning saw - company will offer rentals if necessary - details on fees below

Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities:

  • Fit to work in repetitive manual labour job

  • Handling heavy loads

  • Physically demanding

  • Outdoor work all day

  • Temperatures can vary from 0 to 30 degrees Celsius

  • Rough terrain, uneven ground

  • Exposure to insects (mosquitoes, bees, wasps)

  • JDI staff will be available to help ensure workers understand the job and that safety procedures are followed

Salary:

Targeted earnings of $23.35 per hour or greater, based on associated piece-work rates and required production levels - Minimum 2200 trees planted per day; 0.5 Ha thinned per day.

Hours: 30 to 60 hours per week (excluding travel).

Work Schedule:

Job hours require flexibility on a daily basis, typically 6:00 am- 3:00 pm, including breaks, Monday-Friday. Weekend work may be required, depending on production levels.

Fees:

  • $100/week Camp fee (accommodation and meals)

  • $35/week Equipment rental fee (Purchase options available)

  • Safety gear: Hard hat, ear/eye protection and First Aid kit

  • Planting: Tool and harness

  • Thinning: Saw, tools and fuel
